Cosmic Curveballs & Dropped Mics feat. bell hooks, the Magician & the snake
Act 2 | Reclaiming the POWER THAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS
Snake + the Magician + bell hooks
Thank you for subscribing to Soul SAUCE + FLOSS!
This month, I’m featuring the magic of the SNAKE, who knows HOW and WHEN to strike; the medicine of the Tarot’s MAGICIAN, who has all of the powers, including LOVE LOVE LOVE; and the wisdom of revolutionary author and social critic bell hooks, who radically argued for love as a revolutionary force.
This special New Moon in Aquarius + Triple Cazimi Ritual is alchemically crafted to help you receive Cosmic Curveballs and Dropped Mics from a receptive place in which you can really listen—with courage, compassion, and curiosity. To help you to hear what you didn’t want to know about yourself or the world. Because those messages are incoming on February 28 whether you’re prepared to receive them or not! And, if you really listen, they just might jolt you into your Next Great Poem/Story/Essay!
Magical Ingredients + Timing
For this Soul Floss Ritual, you will need a notebook, something to write with, ten pennies (or other coins), clothing with pockets, epsom salts or a another bath bomb (optional), and the Magician and the World cards—ideally from two different Tarot decks, I’m using the Garbage Pail Tarot and the Next World Tarot because they are such an awesome power clash!
You’ll want to start this ritual before the Mercury and Saturn cazimis on February 28. Imagine you’re an athlete preparing for a big game, or a former poetry professor preparing for a job interview—this ritual will set you up for success by infusing your mind, body, and soul with LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
What’s magical about Cazimis?
Cazimi comes from the Arabic term for “in the heart of the Sun”—an enchanted state when a planet is within 1 degree of the Sun. When a planet is cazimi, it enters the Sun’s sacred chamber, gets purified, and leaves SUPERCHARGED.
In the wee hours of the morning (3:39 am ET) on Feb 28, Mercury cazimi’s the sun. Later that morning (10:05 am ET), mercury and Saturn go conjunct. In the afternoon (4:25 ET), Saturn cazimi’s the Sun.
When Mercury is cazimi, it is infused with mystery, magic—and instructions for the next few months. When Mercury cazimi’s, we can receive insight, wisdom, understanding, information, clarity of thought, enhanced communication, and important insights, especially in trade, travel, and technology.
As queer astrologer Chani Nicholas puts it: “A Mercury cazimi can help us wizard our way to insights and much needed downloads. Mercury is granted VIP access to the Sun’s private chambers and the wattage is both purifying and electrifying. When Mercury is cazimi, it’s a magical time to receive faxes from the cosmos—or your subconscious. If there’s a mic to drop, a creation to debut, or simply a joyful announcement—now is an ideal time.”
On February 28, taskmaster Saturn is also cazimi’ing and supercharged by the Sun. Saturn doesn’t get much fanfare because of its frequently difficult transits, but all it asks is that you follow the rules so that you can mature. A Saturn cazimi spotlights structure, discipline, and responsibility. It’s a time for setting long-term goals and commitments. Wherever a boundary needs repairing or a commitment needs to be reinforced, the Saturn cazimi helps us bolster our containers.
The rub: Mercury and Saturn don’t get along, so there’s bound to be some cosmic curveballs and dropped mics.
Why the medicine of the Magician?
The Magician is the Tarot card associated with Mercury.
The Magician is a pan-dimensional change agent bringing this message: WE MUST UNDERSTAND OUR CREATIVITY IS AN ORGAN, A VITAL ONE!!!
On conventional Tarot cards, the Magician is pointing toward Jupiter with one hand while the other points to Earth for grounding of the transmission. Draw this card to be told you are brilliant, and all you need to do is finally realize you must fully embrace your creative tools and integrate them into your daily life's work, pleasure, and sustenance. The Magician has access to all four Earth elements with the ability to draw down a fifth, and sometimes the sixth element from Jupiter. It is time to awaken every living human's creative organ. There are catastrophic predictions for the near future, and the only way we are going to survive and thrive together is to imagine where to best place our energies today collectively.
You must listen to your intuitive self, which flows through your heart chakra. Listen as in trust what you are hearing, then trust yourself that you can do it. Now is not the time to hesitate, now is the time to leap and know the forces guiding you also have your back.
What’s the magic of the Snake?
The Tarot’s Magician is often associated with the snake. Conventionally, the Magician is depicted wearing an ouroboros—or snake-eating-its-own-tail—belt, urging us to tap into our intuitive powers while staying vigilant against deceitful influences.
Like the Magician, the snake’s medicine is ancient, complex, and foundational—both to healing and to harm. As author Maia Toll explains in The Illustrated Bestiary, the snake invites us to define our own moral center. Her forked tongue represents not duplicity but the ability to speak and know multiple truths simultaneously. Her secret is that multiple realities exist at once until the moment we choose; our choice creates the reality to come.
Together, the Magician and the snake invite us to see limitless potential where we used to imagine a fallen world of limited prospects.
The first ingredient in our Soul Floss Ritual thus involves meditating on the four elements we possess in and on our bodies.
To complete the entire ritual you’ll need at least 30 minutes, and likely more like 45. If you don’t have that much time now, read the workout, get super stoked to channel the magic of the Magician + the snake, and schedule 30-45 minutes into your calendar for lter this month.
